Industrial mixers and agitators

Industrial mixers are used wherever a process depends on blending, dispersion, or controlled fluid motion, and the unit has to hold that condition batch after batch. A mixer specified without the process data behind it can produce uneven reactions, accelerated wear on the drive and seal, and unplanned line stoppages. Duties range from low-viscosity liquids to concentrated chemical solutions, and the equipment changes accordingly.

Mixer selection starts with the process duty. The fluid properties, vessel geometry, operating level, and mixing objective determine the impeller, speed, drive, shaft, and mounting arrangement. For a closed vessel, the seal is selected for pressure or vacuum, temperature, product compatibility, shaft speed, and allowable leakage. Pressurized tank mixers use sealing arrangements suited to fugitive emissions, vacuum service, and internal tank pressure. Impeller selection depends on the circulation, shear, and power the process requires. High-shear blades are used where the duty calls for stable emulsions or the dispersion of difficult solids.
